With a recession looming, our partners in the social housing sector look set once again to prove themselves to be an essential service.
Our 1,500 housing associations now own some three million “low cost rental” housing units or bedspaces, while Help to Buy purchases rose to more than 52,000 in the year to September 2019. The government has now placed housing associations at the centre of its economic recovery plan, with the challenge of delivering its £12bn Affordable Homes Programme in just five years.
And the sector is up to the challenge. As Kate Henderson, Chief Executive of the National Housing Federation says: "The pandemic has highlighted the need for secure, high quality, better designed affordable homes and, for many people, support to live in them. We want to work with government to make sure social housing is where it should be – at the heart of plans for economic and social recovery.
At Hatch we have been working with leading housing associations for many years: delivering commercial projects for L&Q and Notting Hill Genesis amongst others, and furnishing much-needed homes for the socially excluded in Liverpool for Pathway.
We have the depth of resource and financial maturity to deliver to scale and to budget, and our social housing projects receive the same ‘white glove’ service as our private rented or BTR clients, guaranteeing that the quality of the design is more than matched by the installation experience.
