Gonville Hotel

Challenge

The Cambridge hotel scene is highly competitive and traditional players strive to maintain their advantage and profile against both other hotels and the ever-growing Airbnb offering. Creating the distinctive and opulent guest rooms desired by boutique four-star Cambridge hotel The Gonville was the challenge for our Inko design team, while refitting the rooms with minimal guest disturbance and at normal residency rates was the goal for our installers.

Approach

The Inko team embraced the aspirations of the hotelier to combine comfort and high-tech functionality to deliver the perfect guest experience. From generous desk space to a range of comforters, the design reflects the needs of the modern traveler. Wall coverings, bed linen and furniture combine to create a distinctive experience.

Delivery

A property with a great heritage and a prime location in Cambridge, The Gonville set aside five months to refit 62 bedrooms. This encompassed the design and installation of a fresh and modern “classic bedroom” scheme to run throughout the hotel, to include new carpets, paint and wallpaper treatments, furniture, window treatments, lighting and bespoke soft furnishings. Both standard rooms and those with disabled access were delivered. A flexible installation service was essential as the hotel remained open throughout, and the team had to work around occupancy levels and busy periods such as graduation season.

Outcome

Open-book project management ensured that the client had full visibility of the project at all stages. The Inko design team and Hatch installers were able to tiptoe around residents to such an extent that operations were unaffected by the refit. Crucially the new rooms are attracting much praise and strong ratings on the business-critical travel review sites.
